It's the first Tuesday of the year and we are all getting back into the swing of things, so let's talk about career today.  It's easy to feel like our job isn't quite our career. Maybe we are on our way there or maybe we have no idea where "there" is.  Either way, people have a tendency to give just enough to get the job done and keep the boss happy, amiright?  Well, that's not ok anymore.  In the spirit of making 2015 your best year yet, 2015 will require more from you...

You've just been promoted! You’re now the CEO of your job. (WHAT!  Oh my gosh, so exciting.)

Seriously, play along with me here.  What would it look like to do your job to the absolute best of your ability, better than anyone else does or could do it?  How would that change your day?  What parts of what you do are you most excited about?  Revel in them.  What are the things you tend to put off or wish you could delegate them?  Attack those things first each day with fervor.  It's by excelling now that you will get to the point where you're able to get to a position filled with even more of what you love, or where you'll be making enough to hire an assistant to whom you can delegate the things you prefer not to do.

That's my goal for this year.  I want to get to the point where I have more help with some of the smaller but time consuming details of my day, and therefore have more time to think big, plan, strategize, and direct.  I would be able to read more to keep up with what people are writing about, what people are reading, what kind of stories are being told. I would have more time to develop relationships with partners in the industry that would help propel my clients' careers, and out company, forward.

But I won't get there if I don't first rock out at every part of my job myself.  Take it on.  No excuses.  Don't lose the vision of where you hope to be.  You don't have to love your job the way it is for the next 50 years.  You just have to give it your all each and every day that you're in it.

Show 'em what you got!
